A few weeks ago, I sat in a panel at Salt Lake Comic Con with Tahmoh Penikett (if you thought I was done talking about SLCC after my last post, Nooooooooope!), who brought up his practices for remaining grounded. One of the things he brought up was his meditation practices. He spoke about how he works meditation into his daily routine regardless of what he’s doing that day and how it helps him keep his head and had helped him out of some dark places in his past.Read More
(The title “Self Love” sounds a lot dirtier than I mean for it to…)
Too frequently we get down on ourselves. We nit pick and poke at things about ourselves that only we see and tend to focus on the negative. To me, loving yourself is also one of the most difficult things to accomplish. It’s too easy for us to blind ourselves to what we’re good at or assume that it doesn’t matter that we’re good at that thing. These blinders, limit our capability to bloom in the areas we succeed. We don’t often get the chance to indulge in a little self love.
To combat this, on the third Sunday of every month (may turn into more often later), I’ll be posting about something that in the past month I have accomplished or improved about myself. This can be physically, intellectually, emotionally and even spiritually. This could even be something you did to treat yourself to something. Maybe a break down of an at home spa day, or even what you’ve done to let yourself decompress lately. Anything that allows you to show that it is perfectly okay to love yourself.
If you’d like to participate please do, feel free to post your link in my comments and use #SundaySelfLove on social media for me to share it!
Everyone deserves to feel good about their own accomplishments! And I personally would love to know what makes you feel good about yourself recently.
So go ahead, toot your own horn! ๐
(author note: literally every idea I had about showing self love sounded dirty. XD )
What is something you did recently that made you feel good about yourself?
It’s September, which means it’s time for Salt Lake Comic Con again! This year was a bit lower key for me in regards to photo-ops, autographs and even panels. This is the first year in a long time that I went primarily solo. This made for a lot of wandering the floor and a lot of complimenting people on their cosplays.
This past weekend I’ve been feeling a bit nostalgic for a time when I used to write a lot more stories. Each year for the past few years I’ve participated in National Novel Writing Month, but haven’t completed it for a few years. The participating is what I enjoy about NaNo. I enjoy writing with a group of people who when I need a plot twist or a prompt I can simply ask the person next to me and they are more than willing to help. And most importantly I enjoy building a story from the ground up and seeing where the characters lead me (even if they refuse to listen to me sometimes).
I’ve been getting the story bug again (hopefully this means I’ll be participating in Flash Fic Wednesday again). I’ve set a goal to write a small 200-600 word short story twice a month, and I’ve even bought a book called “Complete The Story“.
This is a short story that I wrote about 4 years ago and posted on one of my very old blogs.I realized I never cross posted it here and felt like sharing it again out of pure nostalgia. It’s actually one of my favorite things I’ve ever written.
It’s been a while since I wrote about a video game so I thought today would be a good day to talk about the one I’ve been obsessed with. And I do mean, obsessed. Stardew Valley is the majority of the reason I have been so terrible at blogging lately. (That and we’re starting to look into remodeling our house… more on that later!)
If you’ve never heard of this game, don’t feel bad. The husband started playing it a few months ago and on a day where I was at a loss of something to do (gee, Anna… you could of WRITTEN!), I decided to give it a shot. This game is pretty awesome in it’s simplicity. If you’ve ever played Harvest Moon, its VERY similar to that.
“You’ve inherited your grandfather’s old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home?”
Right around the time that I purchased my first subscription to Gamer Girl Monthly, I was also looking for a subscription box that was different from what I have ordered before. I’ve subscribed to LootCrate, Fandom of the Month Club, and most recently Gamer Girl Monthly. I have loved each of them, but I wanted something a bit different.
Thankfully I stumbled across Half Blood Prints Monthly. If the title doesn’t make you smile, the art will.
Last week I received my first Gamer Girl Monthly box. I have wanted to try this subscription box for a while now, and was finally able to give it a go. Gamer Girl Monthly sends a monthly themed box with video game and geeky themed jewelry. Who doesn’t need more geek/video game jewelry!!
“Hi my name is Ella and I watch too many shows, and read too many books, and have too many feelings. Which is why I write nerd rock songs, because that makes it better. Wanna hear some?”
(FYI: this line basically solidified my love for this series)
A little over a year ago, I wrote a post about the YouTube short film I Ship It by Yulin Kuang. This short film was one of the most fun things I watched last year, and I always wanted more. And while for the past few weeks I’ve been a bit absent from social media (and the internets in general), the other day I noticed this tweet from Yulin.
It’s Thursday and Thrilled time, and boy am I thrilled for some stuff this week! I’ve been in a suuuuper crafty mood lately. Last weekend was my Trekkie Trek and brunch for my local chapter of Geek Girl Brunch. As I did not want to run in costume I came up with a few small things to honor the occasion:
A tank top that I carved the Starfleet Insignia into and made into a stamp.
And some hair clips a fellow officer and I glued together to give to the brunchettes and interested brunchettes. I am so proud of them and the fact that they were a huge hit! Now, I’m itching for my next craft project.Read More

A little while ago Scruffy-Little Nerf Herder started a monthly photo challenge to showcase geeky things around your house that correspond to that monthโs color.
This is a great way to work on your photography skills and showcase your geekery at the same time.
July’s color isย YELLOW. I was really excited for this, yellow is one of my secret favorite colors. Apparently it is so secret, that I don’t actually own a lot of it… Oops. But I managed to get a couple fun pictures anyway.Read More
