I’m Back, Let’s Catch Up!

I’ve been staring at this blank entry space for an hour trying to figure out what kind of excuse I could use for falling away from my blog for the past few months. Then I realized. I don’t need one. Not that I’m not sorry for not checking in, I totally am! But I’m human. Sometimes things get in the way and we have to adjust our priorities and figure out a new way to do the same thing. I just wanted to take a second to play catch up!

I’m going to continue to make time and have fun with this blog. I have never wanted this blog to be one that I just write in because I have to. I love being able to come here and pour my heart out about my favorite nerdy things and know that I have a support system in my readers and friends to back me up.

So lets dust this thing off and give it a go!

Guys… I really miss Pushing Daisies sometimes.

Salt Lake Comic Con 2016

Salt Lake Comic Con 2016

It’s September, which means it’s time for Salt Lake Comic Con again! This year was a bit lower key for me in regards to photo-ops, autographs and even panels. This is the first year in a long time that I went primarily solo. This made for a lot of wandering the floor and a lot of complimenting people on their cosplays.

Thursday and Thrilled: Costumes and Craftiness

Thursday and Thrilled: Costumes and Craftiness

It’s Thursday and Thrilled time, and boy am I thrilled for some stuff this week! I’ve been in a suuuuper crafty mood lately. Last weekend was my Trekkie Trek and brunch for my local chapter of Geek Girl Brunch. As I did not want to run in costume I came up with a few small things to honor the occasion:

Thursday and Thrilled: bows

A tank top that I carved the Starfleet Insignia into and made into a stamp.

And some hair clips a fellow officer and I glued together to give to the brunchettes and interested brunchettes. I am so proud of them and the fact that they were a huge hit! Now, I’m itching for my next craft project. Read More

Art, Newb Cosplay and Osric Chau [Fan Xperience 2016]

This post is a LOT longer than I was anticipating…

Capture
Salt Lake Comic Con does two conventions a year. The main one usually takes place in September and is bigger and more intense. Whereas Fan Xperience usually takes place in the beginning of the year and more like “Comic Con Lite”. When people who have never been to a convention ask me which one to go to, I tell them FanX. It’s a bit less of an shock to the system.

This year during FanX was pretty light. I didn’t really plan anything and just kind of let things happen. Luckily, two of my very good friends were willing to pal around with me the whole time. There was two things I wanted to accomplish this con: Get through my photo-ops without pulling out my hair, and hit my 10,000 steps a day on my FitBit. Read More

Work This Out: January Goals

It’s almost halfway through the month, but whatever. In addition to saying “Yes Please” to more things, I’m going to try and do things that push me a little out of my comfort zone. I’ve said before, I’m not a very adventurous kind of person. I usually have to grip onto the Gryffindor part of me pretty hard and convince myself that I can do whatever is out of that zone. I haven’t died yet, so I know that I can do it.

Last year I stepped out of this zone by participating in a crazy amount of 5ks (more on those for 2016 coming later this week). But this year I’m going to try and push it a little bit more.Starting with January. But January is mostly going to be about planning out my comfort zones and where they end.

Would You Like a Little Con with Your Photo Ops? [Salt Lake Comic Con 2015]

Last week I talked about how excited I was to go to Salt Lake Comic Con this year. I had an ABSOLUTE blast. This year they seemed to be a bit more organized that I had heard about in the past, and I was actually really glad that the volunteers seemed to be able to answer questions more thoroughly than they had in the past. I didn’t get to nearly as many panels as I wanted to. I was standing in lines (for photo ops, autographs and the occasional panel) for about 70% of the time I was there.

I really should have written about this each day, but I was so tired by the end of each day I didn’t think I could get my fingers to move like that. I apologize for the lengthy-ness of this post.

Thursday and Thrilled: Salt Lake Comic Con Edition

t&t
I’m sorry I’ve been a little MIA this week. I blame my excitement for Salt Lake Comic Con starting TODAY!

This is Salt Lake Comic Con’s Third Year and has been growing like crazy each year. This will be my second time attending and I’m VERY excited. This con has had its fair share of growing pains (and then some), but I feel that each year they are trying to get things better and better.

SLCC

This year I don’t think I’ll be doing any cosplay. It’s going to be a year of photo-ops for me and I don’t want to be in Cosplay for my pictures (I know. It’s a bit lame).

Though just because I won’t be dressing up, doesn’t mean I don’t want some pointers on what to do for Cosplay. Read More
