When I discover something and enjoy it, I have a tendency to fall head over heels in love with it. Be that a TV show, a fandom, or in this case, an artist.
I first discovered Karen Hallion when I saw her shirts come across on TeeFury a few years ago. The first one I saw was Ariel and the Doctor, and it was love at first sight. I dove deep into what other things she drew. I stalked her Etsy page and after reading her bio, I knew that she would be one of those artists I’d want to follow for a long while.
Not only has Karen completely won me over with her A-MAZ-ZING The Doctor meets Disney crossovers, she also shows her skills in recreating famous works of art with a geek twist. While Disney and Doctor Who are prominent in her artwork, she shows a pretty wide geek range with artwork featuring Labyrinth, Legend of Zelda, Harry Potter, Star Wars, as well as her own creations crossing over to each other.
Her art work is heartfelt and beautiful, every once in awhile she’ll post some limited edition sketches that sell out in minutes if not seconds (I always try but miss. I’ll keep trying!).
Recently, I made my favorite purchase from her. While I ADORE her Disney meets The Doctor Series, she recently came out with a photo of The Doctor helping Steve Rogers get back to his dance with Peggy. As she posted her work-in-progress pictures on her Facebook I knew that I needed to own it. After she put the finishing touches on it she made it available for sale on Society6 and I wasted no time in buying it for myself for my birthday.
This portrait is one of the best things I own at the moment (I still need to get it custom framed), and I just can’t contain my excitement every time I look at it. Karen has managed to capture just the right emotion in both characters faces.
Who are some of you favorite geeky artists?
