#FlashFicWed : Screen Time

Flash Fiction Wednesday or FlashFicWed. I was a little overexcited about this last week and posted a story A WEEK early, so I decided to write and post a new one today.

Flash Fiction Wednesday was started by the awesome loudlysilent and is a MONTHLY (not weekly like SOME people *cough*me*cough* thought until the adorable Christa Mae at ObsessiveGirlFan corrected her) challenge to write a short story, 600 words max. A challenge that I’m going to try and participate in more often.

So… here we go. Anna Tries to Write- Take Two!

This relationship would never end. They really cared about her. They kept her spirits up and kept her focused on what she wanted to do with her life. It wasn’t often she found a relationship that was so good to her. Sure, it had only been a couple months since they had come into her life, but when you know, you know… right? She had been hurt before. So many times. Occasionally they would just up and leave, no warning, no goodbye. They were there one day, and gone the next. But this one was different. This one was new. She felt it in her toes that they would be here for a long time.

Kelsey pulled her knees to her chest as she sat in her favorite seat, and sipped on her drink slowly to avoid brain freeze. Kelsey felt like herself here. There was very few places that made her feel this way so when she found them, she had a tendency to basically move in. She took a deep breath, taking in the smells of this new place. Some smells were familiar to her, others unique to her nose and some that made her want to explore it more.

The lights dimmed slowly and Kelsey’s heart jumped. She had this feeling every time. Her heart pounded and her face flushed with excitement. Music filled the room and the large screen in front of her brightened.

She loved seeing movies by herself. It was an experience all it’s own. There was nothing like not being worried about whether your companion to the movie liked it or not. All you had to focus on is if YOU liked it. Seeing a movie in a theater where you were legitimately the only person in the room, was like an out of body experience. You could talk to the movie, you could laugh at the movie and you could move around as much as you wanted. That was the reason she saw movies in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week.

Kelsey’s relationships with movies and theaters was something that she didn’t believe she could top with any sort of romantic relationship. Perhaps that was because of all the movies she’d seen in seats just like this had created unrealistic expectations. Whatever the reasons, the theater is where she belonged. It was where she could study works of other film creators she admired, and it was where she could escape her own bland life for a more exciting one. New theaters were the best. They smelled new but familiar but didn’t have the huge marketing just yet so crowds were small. This new theater was just getting off the ground and she was already in love with it.

Previews played and the lights dimmed more. A smile spread across her face anticipating the beginning of the movie. A movie she had already seen a few times, but still adored seeing it on the big screen. Settling into her seat she took a deep breath and curled her feet underneath her.

“Crap! I can’t see the seat number on my ticket…”

Shit. Another person wanted to see this movie.

Thanks for reading! Let me know what you think and if you’ve participated let me know too! I’d love to see what you’ve written!
