Seven Magical Books
I’ve talked about my experience with this series at length during PotterWeek this year. This series has brought me some of the greatest loves of my life
Harry Potter brought me my best friend. After discovering Harry Potter in early middle school I was struggling to find a friend that enjoyed it as much as I did. When I find something I love, I tend to love it ad nauseum. In high school, my best friend and I went through some growing pains with a couple of our other friends and discovered that we both loved (and I mean LOVED) Harry Potter. Since then, she and I have done any and every Harry Potter thing together. We went and saw the midnight showings of all movie from 3-8 and midnight releases of books 6 & 7. We wrote fanfiction, we wrote notes to each other on Harry Potter paper, we did everything together. And Harry Potter was the reason that we became as close of friends as we are.
In addition to bringing me the love for my best friend, it also brought me the love of reading. In the first day of PotterweekI spoke about this in detail. After reading Harry Potter, I quickly devoured books. It introduced me to exploring other places and authors. I found Meg Cabot, through after Harry Potter and from there my love of reading grew and grew.
Lastly, Harry Potter and it’s fandom introduced me to the awesomeness that has been my fandom themed 5ks. Two years ago, I participated in my first 5k with one of my friends, it was dubbed “The Potter Run”. Since then, I’ve done six 5ks, all nerd themed. But it all started with the Harry Potter themed one. You can check out my other posts about my nerd 5ks here.
