With the new year comes new years resolutions. Every year I make resolutions, and every year I fail to attain them because I think I make them too grandiose. I know deep down that I have yet to gain the self control needed to lose 40 pounds and stop drinking soda, so I justify it saying that everyone breaks their new years resolutions.

This year however, I want to create some realistic resolutions. It’s only going to be a few, so that I don’t feel overwhelmed, and I’ll actually believe that I can attain it.

Realistic Resolutions

1: See at least 3 movies this year that aren’t my normal style.

There are a lot of movies that I usually push off watching because I’m sure that I won’t like it. But when I actually sit down to watch it I end up loving (the entire Fast and Furious series is one of those said movies). I judge movies pretty quickly based on trailers and casting. So this year, I want to try and get out of my comfort zone a bit and see movies that I would normally turn down.

2: Finish 4 video games by the end of this year.

I love video games. But last year was the first time that I ever actually finished a game to completion in a long time. Last year I beat Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2, as well as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (OMG! This animation may be my favorite of all the games). Before that I had only ever beat one other game (Chrono Cross), and I had forgotten how satisfying it is to finish a game. I want to try and beat some more games this year, whether I just continue to play RPGs or may try out an FPS game I want to try and finish something that I start.

3: Make a solid effort to eat better.

I eat terribly. I know this. Everytime I eat a McGriddle or a huge steak and egg breakfast burrito, the voice in my head is saying “this is bad for you! stop eating it!!” But my stomach channels Audrey II and just screams “Feed me Seymour! Feed Me!” and my stomach normally wins the argument.

4: Read/Listen to 2 books a month.

This seems like a very small amount when I write it out. But truth be told, I only read about 5 books last year. A few years ago I was going through books like crazy because I could listen to them while I worked. With my current job, that’s not really an option. I can only listen/read on my hour lunch break or listen while I drive to work in the morning. I seem to retain things a bit better when I listen to them.

5: Make every effort to write at least one blog post a week.

Again, this seems like a small amount, but I let my blogs fall to ruin because I wasn’t diligent enough or thought that most people didn’t want to read what I was writing. But I’m realizing that this is going to be for me. This blog is going to be a place for me to get my incoherent and sometimes strange thoughts in the world and out of my head. I may even try and participate in a B.E.D (Blog Every Day in [insert month here]) event at some point.

I think anymore than 5 is a bit much for me to handle. So I’m just going to leave it there.
